Sherry Jones's historical novel imagining the life of Aisha, one of the Prophet Muhammad's wives, from her childhood betrothal to her political role after his death. Random House cancelled its American publication in 2008 after receiving a letter warning the book could incite violence; it was published first in Serbia. The UK publisher's home was fire-bombed three days after publication. Eventually published in the US and several other countries, but banned across much of the Muslim world.
